Governor Abbott Selects Two TAB Members
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Association of Builders (TAB) is excited to announce that two of its members, Chip Dence and Justin MacDonald, were recently selected by Governor Abbott to serve on the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners for terms set to expire on September 5, 2025. The board licenses master plumbers, journeymen, plumbers, and plumbing inspectors.
Overall, Governor Abbott appointed six to the board, including Frank Denton as chairman. Denton’s term will also expire on September 5, 2025. Additionally, James “Ron” Ainsworth, William “Bill” Klock, and Mark Savasta were named to the board and their terms expire on September 5, 2023.
Dence is the owner and partner of East End Builders & East End Lumber Co. in Victoria. The third generation builder was inducted into the Texas Housing Hall of Honor in 2017 and became a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Senior Life Director in 2006 and a TAB Life Director in 1998. He is a longtime member of the International Code Council (ICC), NAHB, TAB, and the Crossroads Builders Association (CBA). As a member of the ICC, he has regularly participated in ICC Committee Action Hearings, board meetings and was a member of the ICC IRC Interpretation Committee and the Code Development Committee for six years. He worked with FEMA as a member of the Coastal Construction Manual Committee and the Hazard Mitigation Team after Hurricane Ike. Dence has chaired six national committees, including the Construction Codes and Standards Committee, and has served on numerous committees at the local and state levels. He regularly testifies for TAB before the legislature and regulatory agencies and is ve¬ry active in HOMEPAC. Dence has also served on the CBA board for 30 years and was president three times. He attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics and holds an Airline Transport Certificate.
MacDonald is the president and CEO of MacDonald Companies, Inc. The Kerrville native has served as an NAHB director, committee chairman and state representative as well as president of the Hill Country Builders Association, twice, and TAB president in 2018. He has been on TAB’s Executive Committee and Finance Committee since 2009, Government Relations Committee since 2015, and a member of the Texas Business Leadership Council and Texas Aspires Advisory Board. MacDonald is active with Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers (TAAHP), Habitat for Humanity Kerrville, and Associated Republicans of Texas (ART). He also serves as a Trustee of the Texas Builders Foundation, the charitable arm of TAB. MacDonald received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Angelo State University, a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Certificate in Managerial Leadership from The University of Texas at Austin.
For years the duo have diligently served the housing industry by volunteering their time to work with many federal, state and local organizations on residential housing issues.
